Cub Scout Pack 421 of Plano serves the Andrews and Beverly Elementary communities. While Cub Scouting is a year-round event, the pack meets during the school year in the months September through May. All Scouts, parents, and siblings are encouraged to attend the monthly pack meetings. In addition to monthly Pack meetings, each den will meet at least twice each month. There will also be den outings available to attend. These outings are akin to a field trip to visit a museum, or maybe a nature preserve. Some den outings will be to go hiking or fishing, or maybe a visit to a local Fire Station. Each boy in the pack is assigned to a den. Each den is a group of boys that are in the same grade. The Boy Scouts of America (BSA) has developed a set of age-appropriate activities for each to den to accomplish during the year. These activities are grouped into 4 separate programs that make up Cub Scouting. Our 1st Graders are a part of the Tiger Program and participate in activities geared more for that age group. In addition, each Tiger Cub is accompanied by a parent or other adult partner. The Wolf and Bear programs are geared towards activities that would appeal to 2nd and 3rd Graders, respectiviely. Our 4th and 5th Graders participate in the Webelos program, which gives the boys more responsibilities as they prepare to transition to Boy Scouts. The pack's annual Pinewood Derby takes place in January of each year. The Pinewood Derby has become a Cub Scouting tradition. The pack usually holds several optional workshops to help the boys learn the basics of building a car. The annual Blue and Gold Banquet is held in February of each year. The month of February marks the anniversary of the founding of scouting here in the United States. In addition, the Pack will also sponsor 2 family pack campouts each year. The whole family is encouraged to join the Pack on these outings. If you've never taken your family camping before, have no fear! There are enough seasoned veterans in the Pack to answer any questions or provide any assistance thay you may require. And if camping is absolutely out of the question, we invite you to bring the family out to the campsite for any Saturday activities. Whether the plans include fishing or geo-caching, your scout is sure to have fun. In addition, the Pack usually picks up the tab for Saturday's dinner. So come out and join us for dinner whether you plan to spend the night or not. In addition to the Pack outings, the District and Council also plan many activities for the scouts. These include activities such as camping at a Boy Scout camp, horseback riding, archery, and other scout related activities. It also includes museum sleep-overs, or scouting night at the circus or symphony. Or maybe it is discount tickets to baseball, hockey, or other sporting venues. There is also the Scout Show held each May that brings Cub Scouts and Boy Scouts from all over the DFW metroplex together for a scouting extravaganza. And then there is the annual Cub-o-ree held at Camp Wisdom's Cub World. Whether its the pirate ship, or the old west fort, or the castle, or any of the other activities that make up Cub-o-ree, they all have fun! Cub-o-ree is open to scouts AND the whole family! And for those talked about for years to come memories, Tiger Night is a don't miss fun-filled evening. Each year sees a different theme and different activities around that theme. Past themes have included "Tiger Knight" with medieval related activities, and "Tigers in Toyland" which was an evening of games, games, and games. For 2010 the theme is "Escape from Tiger Island", which purportedly involves something of a Polynesian and South Pacific flair. Unfortunately, Tiger Night is only open to our Tiger Cubs, those scouts that are in the 1st Grade. |
